A Sunday Full of Hexagons

Today I decided it was finally time to quilt my Hexagon Quilt!

After putting it on the frame I had to decide on the quilting.  With 83 hexagons to quilt it was time to be a little creative.

There really isn't a ditch in English Paper Piecing so I decided to stitch around the outer edge of each Hexagon.  My favourite little filler of swirls was used in the triangle background pieces. Some blocks like this one had enough going on so I simply stitched around the pieces to let the fabric speak for itself.

Other blocks looked like flowers and needed some petals to add a little life.

And still others needed a touch of whimsy to fill in the spaces.  I had a lot of fun coming up with ideas for each hexagon.  As soon as it is bound I will post pics of the completed quilt.  Over a year in the making but so worth the effort.

Sharon's Beauty

Today I want to share with you a quilt that I quilted for Sharon.

Stunning!  The pictures of her Mom are almost outshone by the beautiful hexagon flowers and appliqued vines and leaves.  It is to be used as a wall hanging in her home.  What a wonderful keepsake.

I didn't want the quilting to take anything away from the appliqué  so I did a little outlining and a background filler of roses and leaves.  One of my standard fillers for something soft and delicate.  Great job Sharon!

Dad's 80th Birthday Log Cabin Quilt

I finished the quilt in time to give to my Dad for his 80th birthday.  Here is the official picture.

And now the unofficial photo!

I told Dad he was to use it on the couch.  As soon as it was put in place, Blue jumped up and claimed it as hers.  LOL.

She was giving me the look.  I love seeing my quilts being used, even if it is by the dog.

Sandra and I, along with Doug and Shane, took Dad and Kris out for lunch and then home for some Chocolate Cake with Chocolate icing.  You just can't have too much chocolate on your birthday!

A Saturday Sneak Peek

Just in case you thought I have been slacking off lately, here is a little peek at the quilt I just finished quilting this morning.  Carla ask that I do something a little different on her quilt.  After discussing several options, we came up with this.  They are little explosions all over the quilt. I'm sure once Carla picks it up and binds it, she will share a pic of the finished quilt.

And now for this little gem.  This quilt I have pieced and am in the middle of quilting for another friend.  Once again I'm experimenting with straight lines, and throwing in swirls as a background filler.  The line is "Spring Haven"  by Moda.  It is really funky and fun to play with.

I have just finished my Log Cabin quilt.  I will share pics of it after I have given it to it's new owner tomorrow.  For those of you in BC having a long weekend, enjoy your extra day off. Since I'm a federal employee, I will be working Monday.  Oh well, you just can't have everything!

Works in Progress

During my recent vacation I was determined to organize/clean my sewing room.  I came across a lot of fabric that I have given or will be giving away.  I had way more than I will ever have time to sew so to relieve the stress of dealing with it, I'm giving it away.  That said, I did come across a project that I decided I needed to finish.

The box had 104 completed log cabin blocks, and 14 almost finished blocks.  The strips to finish were there too.  So even though this wasn't yet in my basket of unquilted tops, I decided it was a priority as I have the perfect person to give it to if I can finish by Sunday.

And because I don't like to work on just one project at a time, I pulled this Blueberry Bali Pop out of a box, bought some coordinating fabric, and am working on a sample for Katja's.  It is almost done and as soon as I finish the binding I will get a picture and show you what it has turned into.

The sun is shining, the snow is melting and I'm having a wonderful day.  Hope you are too!

My Farmer's Wife Quilt

Yes, it's done.  Well.....almost.  I still have a little hand stitching on the binding left to do.  A little time in front of the tv should take care of that tonight.

The quilt contains all 111 blocks from the book as well as 17 more of my design.

This shows some of the quilting, as well as a few of the additional blocks.  I had to add some english paper piecing, a little applique, a few drunkard's path blocks and whatever else I was in the mood to sew.  I sashed with 2" cut pieces to make the quilt a little bigger so that it would fit my king size bed.  Now that it is done I am extremely pleased with it.

Those that followed along, I'm looking forward to seeing your quilts this June when we have a show and tell at Katja's.  I'll keep you posted as to a date when it gets closer.
