A Little of This, a Little of That!

My cool quilting room was very enticing this week.  I managed to get a lot of quilting done as a result.

I finished quilting this little beauty.  Donna did a fabulous job of the embroidery and piecing.  It was a joy to work on.

Next up was fun fabric to play with.  Jennifer will be ready for Christmas in plenty of time.

Barbara's little quilt just screamed to have funky daisies on it.

I did manage to finish a couple of tops that I had been procrastinating on.  I'll post pics when they are quilted.  I found a little time to quilt one of my tops that was in danger of being put in the "unfinished basket."  We are heading out camping again soon so I'll have time to finish up the binding.  I fit in a little hand stitching as well on my New Hexagon Millefiore quilt.  Rosettes one through eight are together.  Woohoo!

Quilting and Hiking

The summer is flying by, where does the time go?  I did manage a finish of my own recently.

This is Katja's pattern for machine piecing hexagons.  I used "Mixology" fabric.  I will be teaching this class in the fall.  Hope to see you there.

I quilted this darling little quilt for Monette.  Another amazing friend and quilter that I have met through my local guild.

Next up, some pictures from a few of the hikes I've been on lately.

This is me at Mount Edith Cavell in Jasper park.  This was the July 1st trip, and there was still a little snow at the top of the hike.  When we were back to the parking lot we were advised that we were lucky the trail was open.  It had been closed the day before because a Grizzly was in the area.  Yikes!

This is along the trail on Mount Robson.  We will be going back there shortly.  Doug and I are planing to take a few friends with us, fly to the top and hike down.  Weather permitting of course. I can hardly wait!

A little closer to home, this is on the way to the Trolls, just off of Red Lake Road in Kamloops.  A couple of weeks before there had been some flash flooding and this is one of many grooves in the hillside.

I finally made it to Vancouver Island to visit Harvey in Comox.  This was taken during our hike in Cumberland.  We had done twelve km on Mount Washington, so he took it easy on me and we only did 8 km in Cumberland.  A lot of trails were close because of the extreme dry conditions in the area. A few of you have known Harvey growing up.  He isn't the skinny little man you remember.

Spring 2015 Cotton + Steel

Yes, it is finally being shipped to stores! I am so excited I can hardly contain myself.  There are a few pieces from the line that I just have to have a little more of.  I worked with a fat quarter pack brought back from Spring Market to make this quilt.

Blanche is giving it the once over!  The pattern is "Boomerang" by Crazy Old Ladies.  There was a picture on Instagram of the Michael Miller booth at Market, with a quilt made from this pattern. Of course I had to hunt the pattern down and use it for this Cotton + Steel quilt.  The top and bottom is supposed to be the irregular snap of the design.  I decided it was to much work to bind that shape, so I filled it i with the background fabric for a straight edge.  It is a great pattern to showcase a fabric.

I kept the quilting very simple on this one.  Wavy lines and I was done!

Rosette 7

It's the first of July!  Happy Canada Day and happy Rosette 7!

Most of this Rosette was pieced on my last camping trip.  I used a little bit of the linen for the yellow and the outside rabbits.  I wanted to change the colours up a bit, and the linens fit in nicely.

The centre block is not the same as Katja's.  I received an earlier version with this centre.  It was then changed and I already had this one made, so I left it.

Rosette 8 is in the works.  I have changed the centre on this one as well, so don't think I'm giving you any hints!  I just had to use a little of the soon to be released Cotton + Steel.  The Sloths are adorable and I had to work them in.

As you are reading this, I'm away camping again.  This is my survival kit.  Three bindings, a couple of books, and some hand piecing that I've started using the hexagons from Katja's book. More on that later.

I wanted to share this video that is perfect for celebrating Canada Day!  Canadian EH!
